A Study of John's Gospel. Pt. 26 A Resurrection of Life and Reward for Believers.

Good morning to each one of our Readers.  We appreciate your effort to understand God's Word better by coming to our Bible study blog. We all have so much to learn about our vast God and how we might live our lives to please Him. My goal is always to provide you with careful, accurate teaching and the practical application of God's Word.  Believing leads to eternal life. John 5:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.  Jesus spoke truth to the Jewish religious leaders of Jesus' day about who He was and His relationship with the Father in heaven. Jesus spoke to them with plain, clear language so that they would be able to understand  what Christ was teaching them. He speaks what the Father speaks and they must believe on Jesus Christ.  Again, John wrote his gospel to lead his readers to believe. All those who believe and put

A Study of John's Gospel. Pt. 25 A Judgment for Unbelievers

Good morning... In today's post we explore the continuing dialogue between the Jewish religious leaders and Christ.  Two distinct resurrections. John 5:28-29  Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29) And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.  I skipped ahead to verses 28-29 to show you the two very different resurrections that Jesus is speaking of. Please refer to the blog index since you can find the lessons I previously taught regarding the resurrections. In this post we will cover the resurrection of damnation.   "Damnation" is a strong word that refers to the various judgments Jesus taught in His parables. In Matthew 13, we have the parable of the wheat & tares, the parable of the seed & sower and the parable of the net & the fish.  All three parables involve separating the good from t

Good morning to each of you. As you can probably tell, our study through John's gospel is going to take some time to complete. This is a very worthwhile labor in the Word for our spiritual growth because we will learn much about Christ, our heavenly Father and the ministry of God's Spirit.     John's gospel has a universal appeal and through our studies I am convinced that our faith will be increased, our resolve to follow Christ will be strengthened and our desire to lead others to Christ will grow. May the Spirit of God who inspired the scriptures be pleased to open our eyes to eternal truths and may He work in each one of us to make us more like Christ. What the Father does, the Son does. John 5:19-20  Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. 20) For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all

A Study of John's Gospel. Pt. 23 Jesus Declares His Deity & Jews Seek to Kill Him!

Good morning to all our Readers.... Our loving Father has granted us some truly beautiful weather during the last two weeks here in Ohio. I hope that it has been beautiful where you live, too. No matter what comes our way, as believers we know that God is in control and that we can trust His word. Jesus healed on the Sabbath, angering the Jews. John 5:9-15  And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.  10) The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.  11) He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.  12) Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?  13)  And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.  14) Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made w

Hymn History Holy, Holy, Holy

Good morning to each one of you on this Friday June 19. I am posting a hymn history for the powerful hymn "Holy, Holy, Holy" as it a hymn worth knowing about.  The lyrics and an excellent choral presentation are included for your edification and blessing.   Bob In a world filled with false gods, "Holy, Holy, Holy" exalts the one true God. This joyful hymn celebrates God's eternal and powerful presence. And it also reminds us of our own destiny, for someday, we too will sing "around the glassy sea." Until that day, though, we live in a world of darkness and shadows. Yet even here, we can catch glimpses of God's holiness and power. We can see the awesome creation of the Father, experience the redemption of the Son, and marvel at the way the Holy Spirit works in our lives. God truly is unique among the gods of our world. He's holy--in every aspect of his triune identity. So take time to look for God's holiness. All around us, God's cre

A Study of John's Gospel. Pt. 22 A pool of mercy, a command of Christ and a mans obedience.

Good morning... We are moving into John 5 today. This chapter begins with Jesus healing on the sabbath day. The religious leaders became incensed that Christ would heal a man on the sabbath day and most of the chapter deals with Jesus exposing religious errors while clearly teaching Who He is : God manifest in the flesh Jesus goes to the pool Bethesda in Jerusalem. John 5:1-2  After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.  2) Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.  We now have a change of scenery. Jesus has gone to Jerusalem during a feast of the Jews. John does not tell us which feast was observed at the time of this miracle but the law included 3 annual feasts to be observed in Jerusalem.  Next, we see that they were in the vicinity of the sheep market where a unique pool was located. It was called Bethesda. The name means house of mercy and flowing waters.

Good morning... Jesus returned to Galilee but was not honored there.  John 4:43-45  Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.   44) For Jesus himself testified  that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.  45) Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.   John tells us what happened when Jesus left Samaria. He returned to Galilee and said that a prophet receives  no honor in his own country. Matthew, Mark and Luke record the disrespect that some Galileans had toward Christ (Luke 4:16-30; Matthew 13:57).  There were some Galileans who had been with Jesus at the marriage supper when He turned water into wine. It appears from reading the other gospel accounts that only those who accompanied Christ to the feast in Cana were receptive to His teaching.  A nobleman comes to find Christ because he needed a miracle. John 4:46-48  So J
