Habakkuk Pt. 11 A Glorious Ending of Prayer, Praise and Joy.

Image
Good morning to each one of our Readers and thank you for dropping in to study God's word today.  We have a week of milder weather headed our way and it is truly refreshing after a period of high heat and humidity. The breezes are pleasant and remind me that wind is one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit. I need to have His wind blow across the embers of faith in my heart to keep my love and passion for Him glowing brightly. Today we reach the end of the book of Habakkuk. Truths communicated to us by this prophet of God are timeless and I have been continually struck by how relevant  his experiences are with our own circumstances.  So far, we saw a distressed prophet seeking answers to his questions and concerns from God. We saw that Jehovah quickly responded in a vision to answer his questions and put to rest his concerns. We saw God lead Habakkuk along so that he trusted on the unchanging character of God.  We learned that Habakkuk was a genuinely humble and faithful servant of Je

Habakkuk Pt. 10 The Vision Leaves a Lasting Impact

Good morning to all We have one more lesson after today in Habakkuk and I pray that this brief study will be a blessing and encouragement to each one of us.  The sure end of the enemies of God.   Habakkuk 3:14-16  Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly. 15) Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great waters. 16) When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.  The final two verses of Habakkuk's vision sees Jehovah turn the focus onto the enemies of God. This section had a near term focus on the Babylonians final demise and it has a future fulfillment at the return of Jesus Christ to establish His kingdom on earth.

Habakkuk Pt. 9 An Overwhelming Vision of our Creator!

Good morning and thank you for coming to visit our Bible study blog.  My prayer & sole desire is to help people understand the blessed Word of God with careful, clear, and accurate teaching. This happy task continues to be an absolute joy for me personally, as I study and prepare each series of lessons for all of you. My wife of 48 years is my able editor and she does an excellent job. Habakkuk continued his proclamation of God's praiseworthiness through to the end of chapter 3. In verses 8 to 15 the prophet described the awe inspiring works of Jehovah in the earth and he helps us see the glory, majesty, and power of God. God as Creator is overwhelming in power.  Habakkuk 3:8-9  Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation? 9) Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou di

Habakkuk Pt. 8 THE GLORY OF GOD ON DISPLAY!

Good morning... Thank God that He gave us His Word! The world is full of all kinds of troubles and heartaches. Life seems especially filled with uncertainty as the new "normal" seems to be the absence of what we previously thought was normal. Things are in a state of flux and sometimes chaos erupts. Yet, as Peter says, we have a more sure word from God. It serves as an anchor for our souls to latch on to, the source of eternal, unchanging truth that we need. May our Lord open our minds to His truth and may His Spirit teach us and guide us in His truth. The glory of God on display! Habakkuk 3:3-4  God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. 4) And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.  Habakkuk began this book by pouring out his cares, concerns and complaints to God. The holy law of God was ignored and judges perverted t

"When I Can Read My Title Clear" Hymn Story

Image
Good evening to each of you around the world... I have a hymn story to share with you. The hymn is titled "When I Can Read My Title Clear" which is the idea of a believers sin debt being paid in full by Jesus Christ and Christ's righteousness being imputed to the believer's account. (See Colossians 2:13-15).  The words of this hymn are included and I inserted a link to an excellent performance. I hope that you find encouragement from the truths communicated by this hymn.  Bob Isaac Watts called the hymn “The Hope of Heaven Our Support Under Trials on Earth.” That reassures us that the opening line is not intended to cast doubt on the destiny of the child of God. It’s not as though Watts were saying that he hasn’t been able to “read his title clear” as yet. Rather, it’s, in effect, “Because I’m able to read my title clear in God’s Word, day by day…”   Throughout time God has used sacred music to convey truth and provide a means of worship and witness. Countless times

Habakkuk Pt.7 Habakkuk prayed for much needed mercy for his people.

Good morning... In our last lesson together we saw that Habakkuk specifically prayed for the revival of God's people at that time. We looked at some other Bible references regarding revival to see what this word means.  Learning about revival will help us in understanding what God wants to do in our lives. I suspect that revival is something we all long to see happen in our own lives and within our families.  Habakkuk also prayed for mercy. Habakkuk 3:1-2  A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.  2) O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy. The second part of Habakkuk's prayer was for Jehovah to remember His mercy even while He is rightly dispensing judgment upon His covenant people. The Jewish people had sinned grievously against Holy God and were rightly being chastened by their loving Lord.  Habakkuk knew this but since he also loved the people o

Habakkuk Pt. 6 Habakkuk prayed for Revival.

Good morning to all... Please continue to pray for the Lord to use His Word contained in each blog lesson that He will lead people to Himself. Also, that He would grant strength and revival to all believers who are weary or overwhelmed.  2 Thessalonians 3:1  Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: The words "free course" is the idea of an Olympic runner making the maximum effort needed to win. It is the idea of someone running behind you but catching up  and causing you to make an extra burst to win.  When we sincerely make our best effort to share God's word with others we know that scripture will not return void. Rather, it will do what God wants it to do: save lost souls, transform lives and elevate Jesus Christ. Habakkuk prayed in response to Jehovah's vision. Habakkuk 3:1-2  A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth. 2) O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD,
