Paul has been teaching us about the whole armor of God. We have seen clearly how imperative it is for each born again believer in Jesus Christ to "put on" this armor. We are in the army of Jesus Christ because God plucked us out of the Devil's domain of darkness and securely placed us in the kingdom of God (Colossians 1:12-14).  Before salvation we were the enemies of God, following the lust of our flesh, and doing the bidding of a sin cursed culture Romans 5:8-11; Colossians 1:15-23). Paul has taught us much truth in his letter to the church at Ephesus. He gave three chapters of apostolic doctrine followed by three chapters containing the application of the doctrine. He taught us how marriage, family and master/servant relationships are to glorify God.  Our attention was directed to putting on the whole armor of God. We need His protective armor so we can stand firm in our faith in Christ, immovable and not yielding up any ground to our enemy, the Devil. We are now digging into the various pieces of the whole armor of God. We have received instructions from the Captain of our salvation, Jesus Christ (Hebrews 2:10). He commands us to "put on" the whole armor of God, so that having fought the good fight of faith, we can stand and withstand to the end.  Going to battle in spiritual warfare means that we must run to Christ to receive His strength and take up God's provision of protection for this battle. The Gospel of Peace guards our feet.  Ephesians 6:13-15  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;  15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  A soldier in the army of Jesus Christ must securely fasten the preparation of the gospel of peace upon his or her feet.  The idea communicated seems to be that our

Paul is preparing us like a general prepares an army for war. There are training exercises to be completed, armor for each soldier and weapons appropriate for the type of battle that is expected. A supply of munitions is needed, in addition to food, proper clothing and a sound strategic plan.  Paul taught us that this battle is spiritual in nature. He has also told us that we have all spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ. Our minds must be renewed by the power of the gospel and the indwelling presence of the Spirit of God.  All of the sound doctrinal truth that Paul gave us in Ephesians 1 through 3, provide the spiritual munitions and nourishment that we need to fight in this war. Apostolic truth also gives us a perfect strategic plan for the soldiers in Christ's army to follow.  God's will for us? Put on His Armor!   Paul just introduced the subject of spiritual warfare and the wiles of the Devil. Let us take a quick look at the context that leads us to the individual parts of His armor. Hand to hand combat in spiritual warfare.  Ephesians 6:10-12  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  We saw that we must run to Jesus Christ our Lord for strength  and an infusion of His mighty power. We need His power so we can stand against the wiles of the Devil. The  idea of "standing against" means not yielding up any ground to our enemy,  concerning  what we believe and how we live out the  gospel.  Paul continues to use "put off" and "put on" commands very
