1 Peter Chapter 1 Pt. 7 Loving One Another With Pure Hearts

Image
We are coming to the end of the first chapter in the book of First Peter. 1 Peter 1:22-23  Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:  23)  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.  I mentioned the atoning work of Jesus Christ is two fold. First, as the Lamb of God, He took away the sins of the world. This is expiation. Second, The wrath of God for our sins, which He has every right to pour out upon all sinners, is turned away by the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ.  The Father is pleased and satisfied with the atoning work of Christ on the cross. This is called propitiation. It is because of Christ's atonement that our souls are purified before the Father. We obeyed the truth when we heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We heard it preached and heeded its call. We believed on the

Every Good And Perfect Gift Pt. 8 Give Thanks For Jesus Our High Priest

Image
Pastor Alvis has asked me to fill the pulpit during the Sunday School hour.  At first, it was going to be through the end of this year. However, Pastor has asked me to keep teaching Sunday School during 2024. I am very humbled by this, because Pastor Alvis has been used of God, to teach me about the Lord and my responsibilities as a believer in Christ.  He has shown me how to be careful and accurate when sharing God's Word from the pulpit.  I am very thankful to be a blessing and provide supporting help to my Pastor.  This link takes you to the YouTube Channel for Heritage Baptist Church in Smithville, Ohio. There you will find the lesson I shared on Sunday, November 26, on livestream. I hope that the simple truths from comparing and contrasting the priesthood of the Old Testament with Christ Jesus our high priest, will be a rich blessing, to all who are able to watch and hear it. May Jesus Christ receive all glory and honor from His redeemed people. Bob

1 Peter Chapter 1 Pt. 5 Renewed Minds And Obedient Hearts

Image
The apostle Peter begins the next section of chapter 1, by using the word "Wherefore." This word is a connecting word that reaches back to the truth he has already communicated to us. The word "wherefore" essentially says to us that  "Because these things are true, live this way."  Because we have a living hope in Christ, and because we have an incorruptible inheritance awaiting us, and because He keeps us by His power, then we should live this way. Having this hope and the promises of God, the Christian can endure the trial and troubles that we experience in this life.  In other words, Peter has given us both doctrinal truth and spiritual realities about the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, he is ready to give us our duty. Renewed minds and a heavenly perspective are required.   1 Peter 1:13  Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;  "Girding up th

1 Peter Chapter 1 Pt. 4 Future Blessings Replace Present Sufferings

1 Peter 1:6-9  Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:  7)  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:  8)  Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:  9)  Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. After greeting the churches, Peter offered much needed encouragement to Christians who faced trials, troubles or tribulation in this life. He reminds us that when we face trials, God designed them to purge out dross from our life and to draw us closer to Him. Peter reminded us of our great hope in the risen Lord Jesus Christ. We will hear the trumpet of God, and the mighty shout of Jesus, on the day He comes to take us home to heaven.  His appearing is st

1 Peter Chapter 1 Pt. 3 The Trials Of Our Faith And Future Glory

Image
The Spirit of God guided Peter to write an extended greeting filled with praise and extolling the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. This first chapter reminds me of Ephesians 1, where Paul wrote an extended paragraph, essentially echoing many of these same truths. Peter did indeed heed His Lord's command to "Feed my sheep." Peter and the other apostles suffered much for the cause of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet, they persevered even if it meant they would be martyred.  The trials of our faith can wear us out, but they are temporary.  1 Peter 1:6  Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:  Christians ought to be rejoicing in the glorious gift of salvation by repentant faith in Jesus Christ.  The grace of God that brought salvation to us, should shape what we think about God, and how we interact with others around us.  The verb "greatly rejoice" has the idea of jumping for joy, at

1 Peter Chapter 1 Pt. 2 A Living Hope From our Living Savior, Jesus Christ.

Peter began by praising God for the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ.  He praised the Father for the many thousands of people who were regenerated by the Spirit of God, whose lives were dramatically changed.  He praised God for each of the "strangers" who went out from Jerusalem as Christ's faithful witnesses.    New birth and a new hope in Christ.  1 Peter 1:3-5  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,   4)  To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,  5) Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. These verses are connected, so we will look at them together.  Peter expressed blessing to God the Father, which is giving Him all praise and blessing for He is worthy. Peter reminds us of the full atonement we hav
