The Gospel Of Matthew Chapter 19 Part 1 Divorce, Remarriage And The Gospel

Image
Matthew 19:1-2  And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;  2  And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. At this point in His earthly ministry, Jesus is gradually moving toward Jerusalem and ultimately, the cross of Calvary. He traveled into the territory known as Judaea, which history shows was governed by the kings of Judah who were King David's descendants.  Once again, very large crowds came to Jesus for help and He healed all people who were sick, afflicted or disabled in any way. Whenever Jesus ministered to the people, the power and glory of God with us (Emmanuel) was put on display. This created much anger and jealousy among self righteous Pharisees and scribes, and of course, they came to confront Jesus. Matthew 19:3  The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every...

The Gospel Of Matthew Chapter 18 Part 6 Forgiving Others Is Imperative For All Christians

Image
In our last post we studied  about the subject of church discipline  which the Lord taught right after He gave the  Parable Of the Lost Sheep.  So far in this chapter we saw Jesus address the disciple's pride with a rebuke followed by teaching about having faith and humility like little children. Jesus then taught about those who will seek to stop gospel preaching and the temptations that every Christian faces while living in a sin darkened culture. To fight temptation, He taught us to cut off our hand if it leads us to sin or to pluck out our eye if it leads us astray. His words are to be taken figuratively, and we saw that it means filtering everything that our mind and soul and heart takes in. Thus, we learned that we must set no wicked thing before our eyes and this truth has a very relevant application for our lives. Much of what is posted by so called "news" outlets, social media platforms or the internet as a whole, is simply people sounding off like an angry,...

The Gospel Of Matthew Chapter 18 Part 5 Jesus Taught Us ABout Church Discipline

Image
This chapter began with Jesus' disciples quarrelling among themselves about which one would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Our Lord rebuked their pride and taught them that  child like faith and humility is required to enter the kingdom of heaven. Jesus used a little child to illustrate this truth to His disciples. We are born sinners, and we live in a world corrupted by sin.  Therefore, sin or "offenses" will come but God will judge those who seek to stop or hinder gospel preaching. There are many temptations around us and by teaching us that we should pluck out our eye, Jesus showed that we must guard what goes into our heart and minds. He followed this up by teaching the Parable of the Lost Sheep because this parable teaches us about the love of God and His heart to seek and save all lost sinners. The next section deals with what to do when a brother sins against us and leads us into the topic of church discipline. Jesus teaches us what to do when a brother...
