Can I Know The Will Of God? Pt. 33 Sinners Will Be Judged But Believers Will Be Blessed.
God's will? Seek Him first in prayer.
Psalm 5:1-3 To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. 2) Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. 3) My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
David wrote this Psalm and it is considered a morning Psalm of worship, a fresh meditation upon the previous evening Psalm.
At the conclusion of Psalm 4, David was happy, and lay down to sleep in the peace and love of his God.
He awoke on the following morning, and with his first recollections he meditated on the goodness and mercy of God. His happy reflections led David to call on God to give ear to his words and God’s promises which he had been pleading.
He readily acknowledged that Jehovah was his God and King. He proclaimed his desire to pray to God with full assurance that he would be heard.
King David taught us four valuable lessons about prayer. First, that we must be a praying people because the Father's house is a house of prayer.
Second, we must pray in the morning because we are refreshed and the cares that a new day brings have not yet distracted us.
Third, we must be focused upon God and His glory when we pray, for we are praying to our Creator and Sustainer, King and Judge.
Fourth, that we patiently wait for the LORD to answer our prayer as He deems best. The words "look up" mean keeping watch or observing closely for God's answer.
God's will? God hates sin and will judge sinners.
Psalm 5:4-6 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. 5) The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. 6) Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.
God derives no pleasure in seeing the wicked works of all mankind. He detests and abhors sin in all it's ugly manifestations. No evil dwells in heaven with God, for He lives in the pure light of an unblemished realm.
Our God is gracious and merciful, He is pure and holy. Though He is ready to hear our prayers, yet if we regard iniquity in our heart, he will not hear them (Psalm 66:18).
The workers of iniquity are very foolish. Sin is folly, and sinners are the greatest of all fools. They deny God, the Creator of all, and transgress His holy standard.
Therefore, God hates fools. Wicked people hate God and justly are they hated of him. Being a fool will end in their endless misery and ruin. Lying and deceitful fools are singled out in this text. They will be destroyed at the final judgment.
God's will? Reverence Him and praise Him for His mercy.
Psalm 5:7,8 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. 8) Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.
David was resolved to come into the house of God basking in His mercy and forgiveness of his sins. He had a reverence and respect for Jehovah, that right fear and awe and love for His Creator.
His high view of Jehovah shaped David's worship. He prayed that the LORD would lead him in the path of righteousness, because David had many evil men in his administration.
He wanted to enter through the straight gate and to tread on that narrow path that leads to eternal life (Matthew 7:12-14).
David prayed that God would guide and preserve him as he performed his duty because his opponents were always watching David to make allegations against him.
David put the hatred of his enemies to good use. The more intently they sought some fault in him, the more cautious he was to avoid sin. Their evil spying made David more conscious to be always walking in the way of God.
God's will? All sinners will be judged and condemned.
Psalm 5:9,10 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue. 10) Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
Sinners are not faithful but faithless. They are dead in trespass and sin because of unbelief. They speak lies by flattering David to his face, but speak evil behind the king's back.
They will ultimately be destroyed. Their wicked plans will collapse and they will be thrust out from the presence of God as rebels and transgressors.
God's will? Shout for joy because He protects and blesses us.
Psalm 5:11,12 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. 12) For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
God's people are the righteous ones because they put their trust in God. Believers are well assured of his power and all-sufficiency.
We have great hope and confidence in His promises to us. We are confident of His protection and we love His name. Believers are well pleased with all that God has made known, and take delight in knowing Him.
Let the saints of God rejoice and be filled with great joy unspeakable. Let us exuberantly shout with a constant joy. Let us ever shout with holy joy that exalts God. Let us be joyful in Jehovah, His grace, His mercy, His love and salvation.
Jehovah covers our sins, pardons our iniquities and defends us from our enemies. He blesses His born again children. He shields us from the fiery darts of Satan. He strengthens us with His grace.
Thoughts to Ponder...
We learned good truth about prayer. God wants us to be a praying people and His house is a house of prayer.
God would have us to pray earnestly in the morning, when His mercies are new and our bodies are refreshed.
God would have us pray for His glory to be worked out in our own lives, so that our thoughts, words and actions become full of his glory.
God would have us pray anticipating that Jehovah will answer as He deems best.
God's will concerning sinners is very clear. He hates sin, and His wrath abides upon each sinner. He will judge all sinners. They will not get by with their rebellion against their Creator.
God's will concerning believers is very clear. He wants us to properly reverence Him, and to seek His mercy each day. He wants us to be filled with joy because He is our defender, protector, provider and He will guide our steps.
May we rejoice that we serve such a merciful God, to whom we can come for cleansing from sin and a fresh start.
