The Gospel Of Matthew Chapter 6 Part 4 God's Kingdom Will Come And His Will Shall Be Done

Jesus began Matthew 6 by exposing religious hypocrisy and showing us the best way to give our offerings.

Jesus reminded us that God always looks on our heart.

Giving our tithes and offerings to the Lord is meant to be an act of worship but it is polluted if we call attention to our giving.

Praying to our Father in heaven is also meant to be an act of worship and communion but if we pridefully pray then our praying is perverted.

Thus, Jesus showed us the right way to pray by teaching that our Father in heaven knows about all of our burdens, needs and concerns before we ever ask Him in prayer.

Pray for His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth.

Matthew 6:9-10  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10)  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Our first thought when we are praying should be remembering that God is our audience.

We are not just speaking words into the air. We are speaking to the All Wise God who created and governs all things.

His name is sanctified in heaven and each Christian should seek to hallow His name by the way that we think, talk, and behave.

The kingdom of God is a major theme of Matthew's gospel and he presents the kingly aspects of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew's genealogy connects Jesus with Abraham because God established His covenant with the patriarch in order to bless all nations.

Messiah must be a son of Abraham and Matthew emphasized this truth about Jesus' lineage.

Second, Messiah must be a son of David in order to rightly rule as Israel's king.

Most Jews in Jesus' time ended their prayers by saying "the kingdom of thy Messiah come."

Christ altered the expression by leaving out the word "Messiah" and saying "thy kingdom come."

Jesus did this because He is Israel's Messiah and He came to establish the kingdom of His Father, in the power of His grace, over all the souls of men.

Israel's rejection of their own King was predicted by all the prophets because Jesus is far more than Israel's Messiah.

Each of the prophets spoke of a suffering Messiah as well as an all conquering King.

Messiah's sufferings preceded His glory.

Luke 24:25-27  Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26)  Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27)  And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Christ is also the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world by His vicarious suffering, death and resurrection.

The risen Lord appeared to some disciples on the road to Emmaus and taught them that Christ had to come first to suffer before His glorious kingdom could be established.

Praying for "Thy kingdom come" is a request that God may reign and rule universally, that His laws may be obeyed and that the gospel of Christ may advance until the world is filled with His glory.

God's kingdom begins at the individual level, with each sinner who is converted to Jesus Christ by repentant faith in Him.

The washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost brings to us a new heart and a new spirit so that we may walk in newness of life (See Ezekiel 11:19-20; 18:31-32; 36:24-27; Titus 3:4-6).

This is why we must learn and keep the teachings of Jesus, because He is our King and we can obey Him here and now, even if most around us reject the gospel.

This connects with Christ calls us to let our light shine into a sin darkened world and to live according to His gospel so that our "saltiness" retards to spread of sin.

The will of God is that all people should obey His law, and be holy.

The word “will” refers to His law, and what is acceptable to God.

To pray that His will may be done, on earth as in heaven, is to pray that God's holy law and His revealed will may be obeyed and loved.

His law is perfectly obeyed in heaven, and His true children ardently desire and pray that it may also be obeyed on the earth.

Rulers, nations and people futilely plot against God but He laughs at their efforts.

Psalm 2:1-5  Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2)  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3)  Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4)  He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 5)  Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

This Psalm of David pictures the world as it has been since the Fall, and how it is today.

Sinners and rebels against God rage against the gospel and the perfect moral law of God.

Rulers band together to fight against God's kingdom rule on earth.

Nations pass laws legalizing sinful behavior that God condemns, such as aborting babies in the womb or same sex marriages or euthanizing senior citizens.

Mark it down, every nation, people and individual who rejects God's holy standard will be judged by His law and suffer eternal condemnation in the flaming fire of Hell.

The Father's will is for all nations and people to hear the gospel and respond with faith in Christ.

1 Timothy 2:1-6  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2)  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3)  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4)  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5)  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6)  Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

This is why the gospel of Christ must be preached and shared because God does not want anyone to die in their sins and suffer eternal anguish.

Therefore, it is the express will of God that each Christian live according to His commands.

He instructs us to pray for those who are in authority over us so that we may live rightly in a corrupt and perverted culture.

The will of God is for all men to be saved through the preaching of Christ's gospel.

The Father's will is that you hear the gospel of Christ, and repent  of your sins to be born again.

2 Peter 3:9-10  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10)  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Peter wrote that God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The only reason God's wrath and fiery judgment of sinners has not yet fallen from heaven, is due to His mercy and love for us.

If you are not born again, I ask you to think about this truth.

God loved you enough to send His own beloved Son to die for your sins and to offer you eternal life if you repent and trust that Jesus rose from the dead as the scriptures teach.

All sinners deserve judgment and eternal condemnation yet God graciously offers eternal life to all who hear the gospel and respond with repentant faith in Christ.

Judgment will come and the Father's will be done. Repent today and trust Jesus Christ, the living Savior, King and eternal High Priest.

All who call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved, not those who call upon Allah or Buddha or Brahman or any other name except the name of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

There are numerous false religions and false "gods" that people trust, but there is only One, True Living God who can save us from eternal damnation.

Religion offers many "ways" to heaven, but Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life.; No man cometh to the Father but by me" (See John 14:6-7).

Thus, rulers and nations fruitlessly rebel against the omnipotent God who laughs at them and holds them in derision.

The Father's will shall be done on earth as in heaven and Christ shall rule and reign eternally.

Psalm 2:6-12  Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7)  I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8)  Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9)  Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. 10)  Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11)  Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12)  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

David's psalm looks past mankind's general rebellion against God and looks forward to that great day of judgment when Christ Jesus shall rule and reign in Jerusalem.

No matter how united the world system is in opposing God, His will shall be done.

When the Father decrees that it is time, His Son's kingdom will be established and all demonic and earthly powers will not withstand Him.

Rebels will be dashed into pieces like a clay pot broken on rocks.

Christ will rule all nations with a rod of iron such that not one will disobey His righteous commands.

Believers should take heed and continue to love and serve the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.

The wicked and sinners should take heed and repent and believe on Christ while they still have time.

Those who repent and believe on Jesus shall receive eternal life and blessings from God.

Judgment from God is coming and you must prepare by responding to the gospel with faith.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10  And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8)  In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9)  Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 10)  When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

The Lord Jesus Christ shall return with His mighty angels.

He will come in flaming fire to take vengeance on sinners who rejected His gospel and offer of salvation.

The wicked will be eternally punished for their wicked ways and God shall be glorified and justified.

As long as the Father allows the gospel of Christ to be preached, you still have an opportunity to be born again.

Think about these truths and if you know you are not saved, call upon the Lord for He will save you.

For those of us who are saved, may we labor faithfully sowing the good seed of Christ's gospel into the lives of those we love.

Let us unite in praying that our Father is able to save a multitude of souls through gospel preaching.

Let us share the gospel and pray for the Holy Spirit to open people's hearts to it's life giving truths.
