There you will find a livestream of the Sunday School lesson that I taught on July 26, 2026.

We learned how Jehoshaphat began very well and if his tory stopped there, we would say it was all sunshine and blue skies because so many good things happened.

However, his story continued on and what happened next is very perplexing.

Jehoshaphat initially strengthened himself against Israel because wicked king Ahab ruled and he feared being attacked.

Remember, ten tribes broke away from Judah and Jerusalem, and formed Israel, the northern kingdom. 

Judah and Jerusalem continued with kings in the line of David and the Levitical priesthood established by Moses, and were known as the southern kingdom.

We learned that from 2 Chronicles 17.

However, in the next chapter, we find Jehoshaphat traveling to Samaria after he made and "affinity" with King Ahab.

What is an "affinity?" It means he arranged a marriage with King Ahab's daughter for his son Jehoram.

Jehoshaphat forgot that the people of God are always called to be separated that which is unclean or unholy, and everything about Ahab was unholy.

After Jehoshaphat died, Jehoram became king and immediately killed his brothers because his wife, the daughter of Ahab, counselled him

Who was this wicked queen? Her name was Athaliah and she latter murdered her own grandsons, in a Satanic effort to stamp out the royal line of King David, so that Messiah could not be born.

Jehoshaphat quickly learned how foolish his affinity with wicke Ahab was, for Ahab decided to disguise himself like a normal soldier and go to war against Syria.

However, he told Jehoshaphat to put on his royal robes and this act almost cost Jehoshaphat his life, for the Syrian king told his men to seek and attack only Ahab.

Thus, when the saw Jehoshaphat, they circled him with chariots and were going to take him out, but God intervened.

This reminds us that God may expose our wrong choices to get us back on track.

God sent His prophet to give a strong rebuke to Jehoshaphat and the king responded aright, with repentance and a renewed vigor to serve God.

Thus we learned that repentance leads to restoration with God and that restoration with God leads to revival.

Last, we noted that revival is not some event that happens to us. Rather, it is a return to abiding in Christ that will produce ongoing fruit for His kingdom.

Hymn Story of "Sunshine in My Soul Today"

  Good afternoon.. I have a great hymn history to share with you today. One of the outstanding hymn writers was Eliza Hewitt. This hymn "Sunshine in My Soul Today" was written by Eliza after she suffered a serious injury. The lyrics and an excellent performance of the hymn are included. Psalm 92:1 “I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name,  O thou most High.” In 1851 Eliza Edmunds Hewitt was born, and grew to be valedictorian of her class and a school teacher in Pennsylvania.   At some point in her teaching career an unruly student struck her on the back with a piece of heavy slate.   This injury left Eliza in a heavy cast for months, confined to her room. W e will look at the synoptic gospels to gain a full picture of how Matthew 8 concludes. The Spirit of God moved these men to write a narrative that pulls back the curtain to give us a view of the unseen spiritual world. You will notice that the gospels record an inordinate amount of demon activity during Jesus' earthly ministry. This activity also carried forward through the book of Acts as the gospel spread outward from Jerusalem into the world. No doubt this heightened demonic activity was one of Satan's weapons to hinder the work of Christ.  However, in every single case the Lord Jesus imposed His will upon the demons and they submitted to Jesus' authority.
