We studied King Uzziah in Sunday School and learned some important truths.

Uzziah had a long and productive reign over Judah, lasting 52 years.

One of the most important aspects of King Uzziah is that scripture says he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD.

His good work for his people was a result of seeking the LORD a a priority.

We saw that Uzziah sought God first. Then, he sought good guidance from a prophet of God.

We learned that he did very well as long as he put God first.

He retook and restored the important port city of Eloth.

He was successful in battle against the Philistines and put them under tribute.

He established a well equipped, well trained military.

He expanded animal husbandry and agriculture to increase a stable food supply chain for his people.

Scripture says that King Uzziah did very well (prospered) "until he was strong."

We saw that pride entered his heart and he attempted to usurp the office of the priests.

God swiftly judged Uzziah and struck him with leprosy.

Thus, Jotham, Uzziah's son, reigned in place of his father because of God's law concerning lepers.

As a leper, Uzziah was an outcast, forced to live by himself outside the city walls. 

He was required to wear torn clothing, have unkempt hair, wearing a covering over his lips, and shout "Unclean, Unclean" if anyone got too close.

Thus, his sin of intruding on the priest's office meant that he could not spend time with his family and friends, he could not share meals with his family, and worst of all, he could no longer go to the temple to worship God.

This teaches us several truths about revival and our walk with the LORD.

Revival and bearing fruit for the kingdom of God go hand in hand.

We can say that we are experiencing revival but if there is no fruit, nothing happening in our lives that is inexplicable apart from God, then we do not really have revival in the Biblical sense.

Revival continues as long as we remember that God cares how we live. Uzziah forgot this when he attempted to offer incense in the Temple of God.

Revival is nourished when we seek God first each day.

And last, revival can be snuffed out if we become spiritually too self sufficient.
