We studied about King Jotham on Sunday school.
Although the Biblical text telling us about Jotham is relatively scant, we also looked at one of the prophets who preached during this king's reign.
Micah preached a message of impending judgment upon all the wicked nations.
He preached that God would judge the ten tribes who broke away from Judah and Benjamin, because they imported idolatry into Jerusalem and Judah.
He also preached of Christ the Messiah and His kingdom.
Therefore, his message was one of judgment upon the wicked and of hope for the faithful.
Politically, Jotham inherited a stable, well organized government from his father, King Uzziah
Morally he was a righteous man, but the high places and groves connected with idolatry and immorality had not been taken away.
Jotham followed the many good examples set by his father, such as being an industrious builder of infrastructure, maintaining a good army and constructing defensive forts in the wilderness areas.
Jotham observed how God judged his father for intruding upon the priest's office, and how he was stricken with leprosy for his sin.
Jotham avoided his father's singular bad example and his life was blessed by God for being an obedient king.
We learned that having a relationship with God was the key to Jotham's success as king.
We learned that revival requires our constant dependency upon the LORD.
We learned that revival requires us to take a firm stand upon the Word of God even when it is not popular to do so.
We learned that revival requires the believer in Christ to be His faithful witness.
I hope that each of you who can view the livestream will be blessed by hearing teaching from God's Word.
